This is a human brain.

It can do many things, from moving the physical body to thinking about many things. This one is mine and it has many quirks and specialties just like everyone else’s. Mine mostly likes to think, sometimes about things that are silly and other times, things worth writing about.

This site is exactly that, a compilation of thoughts by a brain that thinks a lot. And one thing about this brain is how it has the tendency to observe other brains, be it through behavior, values, morality, actions, or patterns.

And before everything else, this brain isn’t a professional in any of the fields it writes about. It is, however, an observer, a thinker, and a rather persistent question-asker. And I believe in the freedom of thinking, no matter who or what the brain behind it is like. Because I think wisdom is the freest thing and it could come from everywhere and anywhere. So at least to me, expertise isn’t the prerequisite for having an observation worth considering.

Why Apple on Couch?

I have always wanted to create a place where I can publish my thoughts and observations into one accessible place. So I asked myself, ‘how can I share my thoughts, but casually?’ while commuting home after work and finally decided on the name Apple on Couch. But why?

The first inspiration was the concept of armchair philosophers, which I know is mildly derogatory on its own. But my concept was, what if wisdom and philosophy are so accessible that you can do it while relaxing? What if instead of making it a ‘philosopher thing’ or ‘smart-people thing’, what if everyone who is willing can access and understand it? What if it is so digestible, just like an apple?

While the apple is just a simple fruit, so simple it might seem trivial. But like the saying ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’, perhaps even the simplest wisdom is still wisdom. And it could be nourishing for anyone from any background.

The Objective

I certainly have explained the why, but now let me elaborate on what this project truly aims for. Other than a medium for my thoughts, this project isn’t just about me but also an attempt to make knowledge and information accessible. With the era of the internet, much misinformation and negativity runs rampant without control. It is easier to share fear, drama, or false information rather than useful information. So in an effort to make information on the internet ‘healthier’, Apple on Couch was born. One of my hopes is to create a space and community where anyone can discuss and share wisdom with each other.

What you can do next

Explore the site, that’s it. Maybe some piece of writing will stick with you, maybe you will find yourself agreeing or disagreeing with me, or maybe you choose to buy me coffee. Either way, this is what I meant by ‘wisdom is the freest thing’. You can do anything with it; digest it, argue with it, or even share it with someone else. Whatever it is, the willingness and time you take to read is already valuable to me. So thank you, and happy exploring.
